1,100 Deaf jobs are saved (Purple) FCC Update

Latest update concerning the status of Purple and its debt. 

Main Points:
  • Purple Communications, a provider of telecommunications relayservices, acknowledged its debt to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
  • Owes $18,459,064
  • FCC will continue reimbursing Purple for legitimate relayservices provided by Purple month by month.
  • Purple has 180 days to come up with a plan to pay back their debt to the  FCC in a timely manner. 
  • No further penalties
  • 1,100 Deaf jobs are secured.

  5. The jobs aren't saved. They're just in limbo. Purple claimed making these repayments would make the company insolvent. They have 180 days to figure out a solution to the problem they caused themselves. IF they do, the jobs will be saved.

  6. Majority of those 1100 employees are NOT DEAF but best of the certified interpreters around! Many of the deaf contractors has quit due to change in how they pay them really sad!!

  9. When I look back at this blog, I think it's ironic. Sure, 1100 jobs were saved but technically two-three months later, all outreach workers got laid off due to $$$ and hiring only 13 reps (one each for one major city).

    Its more of 200-500 jobs saved, technically.
